【1学期,3~4年,b,1単位,,共通講義棟1号館303室】この授業の目的は主張・見解を英語で説得的に述べる能力を、主に学術的なプレゼンテーションの作法を学ぶこととその実践を通して発展させることです。おおまかな授業内容としては以下になります。1学期は短めの文章の翻訳と500語の小論文の執筆・発表とを準備として行い、次に何らかの意見やアーギュメントを学術的に出す上での議論の組み立て方のポイントを押さえ(ないしは復習し)つつ、ACLを挟んで、500語のアウトラインを実際に執筆・発表してもらいます。2学期にはアウトラインの発表後、議論を彫琢した上で2000語程度の原稿を仕上げ、再度発表するということをします。単に発表だけでなく、司会をつとめたり、質問をしたりそれに応答したりといったことも行います。教材は教員がプリントしたものを配布します。

Students are required to read the assigned pages of text each week and write answers in note form to discussion questions based on those readings. Students will also give a presentation on the topic of their essay in the final class.

Students will be expected to prepare reading and listening activities in advance, speak actively during class, and provide weekly reflections on the class topic. For the ALH activity, students will also be expected to prepare a presentation on a topic of their own interest relevant to the course in English to share the following week. Exam-based TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS materials may also be included in the class if deemed relevant.
